'Ruby'
'Ruby' is a character in a video game named 'The Path'. I chose her mostly because I loved the look of her face, a dark sadness shadowing a childs eyes. Ruby needs to wear a leg brace due to her handicap but that doesn't slow her down. The wolf is representative of the challenges and fears that she faces in her life. As the game is based on the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood', Grandma's house on the hill seems far away while the 'wolf' waits for her to decide what path to take.
I'm a big fan of gaming mostly because of the art involved in backgrounds and characters. With this technology, you can explore art while taking a long walk in the woods. Not much action in this game, I'm afraid. You let your mind wander as most all know the story.

Outlining and Perspective
I wanted to create the real presence of the wolf in this painting. Just being able to watercolor him was thrilling as well as a challenge. I was able to get a feel for 'hair' from the brush and work with that. A lot! His teeth are great and his eyes are just like the moon without making him look like a werewolf.
Filling In
I'm not good at structures. You would think that a box would have been easier than the wolf but it wasn't! I wanted shadow and dimension on the house but failed. Ah well, practice!
Details are key
I loved the wolf's ears. They came out lovely and sharp with detail and a pretty good perspective for a beginner. I've drawn in the past and can usually re-create anything I see if it will only stay still! No fear here, I looked up wolves and got a good look at the head. Knowing where shadow goes can bring a sense of realism to any object.
I had no idea how this would turn out but I kept on anyway
This was where I felt that I was finished but had too much white space because the sheet was so large. Had I spaced it out better, and had a plan for what I had wanted to accomplish, I think I would have been fine. Instead, I did a lot of 'filling in' and ended up making the page look crowded. Rather than crying about it, I just added some other aspects of the game, like Ruby's wistful face in the background. She doesn't look too 'wistful' here, happy, I think! But she does look upon a flower that, in the game, is a distraction to the objective. Little girls are often distracted!
